Lake Oswego-based law office Scarborough, Mcneese, Obrien & Kilkenny PC hired SUM to help them execute their office move and renovation. Like many law offices, they felt their old space lacked the light and airy qualities of a contemporary space. SUM’s answer was to use lighting and materials to craft a modern and professional space that conveyed the time-honored nature of their law practice, while simultaneously ushering it into a modern direction. Playing on the existing lines and angles of the space, SUM executed deft maneuvers at the floor and ceiling planes to wash surfaces with light and direct the eye through the progression of space. Another move was to create a “public” and “private” dichotomy, making clients and legal staff equally comfortable while facilitating efficient workflow and employee satisfaction.
