Cascade Brewing Barrel House
SUM transformed a former produce warehouse into Cascade Brewing’s 7,000-square-foot production and tasting facility in Portland’s Central Eastside. Designed to support the brewery’s renowned sour ales, the space balances function, character, and craft.
A 2,500-square-foot barrel room, designed to maintain ideal aging conditions, holds up to 200 wooden casks for sour fermentation and bottle conditioning. Adjacent to the barrel room, an 80-seat pub features custom wall openings where barkeeps draw pours directly from aging barrels, physically connecting visitors to the brewing process.
The restored façade includes expanded storefront glazing, new signage, and bike parking, while reclaimed window openings and a street-facing deck breathe new life into the historic structure, anchoring Cascade Brewing in the fabric of its neighborhood.
