Mason Residence

Portland, Oregon

This mid-century home had grown dark and disconnected from its lively neighborhood. SUM revitalized it by honoring the original architecture while updating it for modern living.

Expressive rooflines and exposed beams were restored, with dated finishes replaced by natural wood, layered lighting, and an open, airy layout. Floor-to-ceiling windows reconnect the interior with the outdoors, flooding the space with light. Refreshed siding, updated glazing, and a bold yellow door revive its street presence.

The result is a thoughtful restoration that preserves what matters, enhances livability, and returns this mid-century gem to the life of its neighborhood.

This project is a testament to the power of restoration: preserving what matters, removing what doesn't, and creating a home that once again contributes to the life of the street and the neighborhood.
